Well... and that's exactly what we're doing today. We're taking the ferry to Norway!
The supposed door that was slammed in our face has opened a little again.
Our thoughts kept revolving around this whole topic.
We cannot be put into quarantine just because we are Swiss citizens. We have been in Germany and Denmark for days now and people from these countries are allowed to enter. The only person who can really answer our questions is the Norwegian embassy in Bern. One phone call and the situation is clear.
We left on August 6th and have not been in Switzerland since August 7th. After 10 days in a "green" country, the required quarantine is completed. We immediately rebooked the ferry for August 17th instead of canceling it. On the advice of the nice lady on the phone, we collected all of our overnight accommodation receipts so that we could prove upon entry that we had not been in Switzerland for 10 days. Especially since we even left when Switzerland was still "green", which is another plus point.
Long story short - when we entered the country, nobody was interested in our documents and we were waved through. Two thirds of the people entering the country were Germans. There were exactly two of us from Switzerland.
We actually expected a long wait at the border. But we were through in a flash. So we continued on our way to beautiful Norway.

And they found what they were looking for.
We found what we were looking for here in Kviteseid. The official parking space doesn't offer anything other than a beautiful location, but it costs 150 NOK. You should pay at the tourist office, but unfortunately it is closed and doesn't have any opening hours posted, and the bank details for paying in are a bit difficult for us. We'll take a look.

Day route: Hirtshals - Kviteseid, Norway

What a wonderful morning greets us in Norway!
We really can't pay for the parking space anywhere, so we do a fairly large purchase in the small supermarket in town and in doing so we also support the economy and businesses in the small town.
Breakfast tastes twice as good in this weather and with this view.
In 2014, during our first stay in Norway, we crossed the Haukelifjell and almost couldn't even see our own hands in front of our faces.
What a difference to today. We enjoy the trip and would have liked to spend the night on the mountain. But several construction sites are blocking nice places to stay overnight and the others are entirely in German and Danish hands!

Of course, on our route today we will also pass the Lätefossen and the Vidfossen.
There is even a free parking space for us at Lätefossen.

So we end up at the parking spot in Odda. But since we're there quite early, we get a spot right at the front.
A first purchase in a Rema1000 and very importantly a first purchase in the Vinomonopolet.

The sun can't always shine. Tonight we hear rain pounding on our motorhome roof for the first time since we set out on this journey. But after our first coffee in the morning, it's all over again.
We set off quite late today. We chug along the western shore of the Sorfjord to Utne and then continue on the signposted scenic route to Jondal.

There are always beautiful views that are waiting to be photographed.
Norway has its charm whatever the weather.
OK, constant rain is definitely the worst weather.
But that is not the case today.

We reach the parking space in the port of Jondal at around 2 p.m. and spontaneously end today's stage.
A walk through the village, a little shopping, watching the ferry, enjoying etc.

Time flies and the weather is getting better and better. Our plan for tomorrow is set.

Thursday, August 20
After breakfast at the Hardangerfjord we want to head high.
After 1.5 hours, 19 kilometers and 1,210 meters of altitude, we reached the Folgefonn summer ski center with our e-bikes.
My feet are almost tingling. It would be nice to quickly "slip" into my ski boots and do at least one descent.
OK, let's forget about that. We dress warmly and rush back down. Not without stopping a few times to take photos. The nature, the views are simply fantastic. This is our Norway.
The parking space in Jondal near the guest harbor is empty at midday. There are no tourist boats anchored there either.
We spontaneously use the freshly cleaned shower on site and enjoy the warm water. After a small lunch we want to drive a little further.
Especially since this parking spot is also one of the shadiest places we know of in Norway. The sun only kissed our Pfüdi shortly before 1 p.m.

After studying the weather forecast, we head towards Hardangervidda. Another biking project is waiting to be implemented there. After a rainy Friday, the weather is supposed to improve again from Saturday.

We know from experience that during the late afternoon on the Hardanger Vidda almost all free standing places are occupied, especially at this time of year.
So after 2014 we ended up at the beautiful campsite in Ovre Eidfjord again and the very friendly operator immediately understood that we would like to have some peace and quiet and since we don't need electricity he found a wonderful spot for us. Thank you.

Daily route: Jondal - Over Eidfjord
Distance: 116 km
Travel time: 2 hours 27 minutes
Average consumption: 9.4 liters
Average speed 47 km/h
Camping costs: 240 NOK incl. food/drinks, without electricity

Friday, August 21
We almost made it and experienced a tropical night in Norway!
We start the day very comfortably!
At some point we set off towards Hardangervidda.
Of course we have to stop at Voringfossen and see how far the new viewing platforms are finished.

A lot has happened since our last visit!
There is no comparison to 2014. Back then, the paths were narrow, uneven. When it rained, they were really slippery. Today, a large part of them is even handicapped accessible and wheelchair accessible.
Our journey continues up to the Hardangervidda.
We discover a dead-end road, a toll road, which costs 200 NOK but is worth every cent.

So we really end up in the wilderness of this plateau and enjoy a real lazy day with all kinds of weather capriciousness and our delicious raclette goes wonderfully with that.
The view from our bedroom window!

Daily route: Upper Eidfjord - Hardangervidda
Distance: 47 km
Travel time: 1 hour 39 minutes
Average consumption: 16.1 liters
Average speed 28 km/h
Pitch costs: 0 NOK without everything

Adieu Hardangervidda - until the next Mal!
Our actual plan for today: Park our Pfüdi in Haugastol and cycle with the e-bikes along the Rallarvegen to Finse and back again. We took this route last year with the Bergen Railway and we really liked this part of the route. With the bikes it would be a completely different experience. But the weather is extremely windy and you have to expect rain at any time. So we're not going to do it.
We drive on. The next stop is in Geilo. Pfüdi needs diesel, a little shopping is also necessary and there is even a great disposal station here.

Strengthened in this way, we continue through the Auerlandsdalen to Auerland and turn off towards Auerlandsfjell.
Of course, a stop at Stegastein is a must.

Finally, we find ourselves alone somewhere on the Auerlandsfjell, 1,200 m above sea level. Sometimes we have a beautiful view and seconds later the weather and the atmosphere are almost mystical again.
Tagesstrecke: Hardangervidda - Auerlandsfjell
Distance: 185 km

Sunday, August 23
We start the day early and enjoy a beautiful, almost lonely drive over the Auerlandsfjell.
At the Laerdalsfjord we find a nice place for breakfast.
We deliberately choose new, lesser-known routes. The toll road Tindevegen takes us along a narrow road through an impressive landscape to the Sognefjell.

The weather conjures up mystical atmospheres!

But the sun also makes a brief appearance!

And again a narrow toll road leads us to our beautiful overnight spot.

No words! Pure Norway!

Distance: 163 km
Travel time: 4 hours 44 minutes
Average consumption: 11.4 liters
